June Mood Board

Our June Mood Board is about the early summer with it’s blossoming flowers and blue skies. Based on the gorgeous Äntligen collection, this is the perfect opportunity to finally scrap your graduation and speechday photos.June-Mood-board

And here’s a little reminder of what our mood boards are used for…

Definition mood board - n

a board used by designers on which samples of various colours and textures are mounted to help in deciding which elements complement each other

We are using mood boards for our challenges. We truely believe in creativity and art at Maja Design. You are free to interpret the mood boards in any way you’d like. They are supposed to set you in an inspirational mood without too much controlling. We would like you to be inspired by the poems, words and photos. They are not given rules, they are just there as inspiration. They are all inspired by a Maja collection, but you are free to use any Maja papers you’d like as long as they follow the colour scheme. We highly encourage you to follow the theme of the mood board as well.

We are presenting a new mood board the first Tuesday of every month. We will be presenting all participating creations that fulfill the requirements below June 25th. We will also draw a winner who will be winning a Maja Design collection of their own choice in 6×6 or 12×12.

After your creation is done, take a photo and send it to moodboard@majadesign.nu without any watermarks (size 600×600). Include your full name and address in the e-mail together with what collection you would like if you win. Don’t forget to write down if you would like 6×6 or 12×12. We need your creation June 23rd at the latest.

We will only publish creations that fullfill the requirements!

April mood board

Spring has finally started to arrive here on the west coast in Sweden. We can feel the sun starting to warm our frozen faces and the birds are doing their best to outshine each other while singing for the top of their lungs. It comes to natural to us to let our new mood board have a spring theme. Based on the brand new Vintage Spring Basics collection I’m proud to present our April mood board…April-Mood-board

Mood board March

It’s still not to late to crawl up in a cozy chair in front of the fire place and grab a fika together with a good book. I’m giving you our new March mood board…MoodBoardMarchThis mood board has been inspired by the long time favourite Ska Vi Ta En Fika collection. It’s a celebration to coffee and the joyful atmosphere fika brings. If you wonder what fika means you can read all about it here.

In the Mood for Soft and Feminine

Life is Good

I just loved the soft and feminine look of the February Mood board and just had to create a layout using inspiration from this board!  If you haven’t seen it yet here is a peek at it, aren’t the photos from Ivana’s wedding so beautiful?

February mood board

In keeping with the soft pretty pinks and delicate florals of the mood board, I chose papers from the gorgeous Vintage Summer collection.  I wanted to keep it light and feminine so I used a make-up sponge to apply a soft layer of dusty rose ink to the page (Tim Holtz, Victorian Velvet) and then layered on an old lacey rub-on I had left over from my days on the Daisy D’s design team.

Life is goo close2

Life is Good close1

When I create a page using the Mood board, I like to take words from it and incorporate it onto the page.  Things like ‘Lace’ (in the rub-on), ‘Pearls’ (A couple of strands draping down from the embellishments), ‘Shimmer’ (Sparkly Stickles in the chipboard flower petals), ‘Shades of Misty Rose’ (in the inked background)…..it’s amazing how these words can inspire fun techniques on a page if you just let your imagination go!

Life is good close3

I created a little video clip to show how I pull back the paper edges to make a little peek-a-boo design in the layout.  It’s a technique I really like to use and I’m often asked how I do it.  Although it’s simple, I’ve been asked a number of times if I would demonstrate it in a video.

Supplies used on this page:  Patterned Paper – Maja Design ‘Vintage Summer Basics’ (1908-bs, 1925, 1921), and paper from the Vintage Summer 6×6 paper pad.  Chipboard: Dusty Attic Designs, Rub-on’s - Daisy D’s, Flowers – Prima and no-name brand roses, Inks - Tim Holtz Distress Ink, Colorbox.

Before I close off for today I thought I would share a little project I made for my Dusty Attic Design Team this week.  I used the warm and lovely papers in the Walking in the Forest collection for this one.

Beautiful

The photo is another I got from my nephew of one of his little girls.  I love the cute faux fur outfit she’s wearing with the sweet braids in her hair.  I wanted to go with a naturalistic look for the page so I went with a Dreamcatcher chipboard from Dusty Attic and I thought the warm Autumn colors in the Walking in the Forest Collection got me the look I was going for.  I give loads of tips and a step by step at my blog on how I prepped the background papers before applying my photo and embellishments at my blog HERE, if you’d like to take a peek.    SUPPLIES:  Patterned Paper: Walking In the Forest (Cosy Scarf, Die Cut Letters-bs, The Orchestra of Nature), Chipboard: Dusty Attic (Dream Catcher #1, Postage Stamps), Flowers: Prima (Blue Hydrangeas), Rub-ons: Daisy D’s, My Minds Eye, Other: Paint, feathers, lace.

If you would like to give this beautiful Mood Board challenge a go (and have a chance at a fabulous Maja Design collection prize!), you can find the challenge information HERE.  Thanks so much for stopping by the Maja Design blog today, we love to hear what you think of our products and designs! xo
